Description of Undergraduate Major: 

The Department of Religious & Classical Studies is interdisciplinary by definition and covers content that spans the globe in a broad historical manner. Our curriculum includes an array of topics, such as:

 • American religious culture
 • Eastern and Western religious and spiritual traditions
 • Ethical issues of contemporary life (e.g., biotechnology and ethics)
 • Gender and sexuality
 • Media and religion
 • The interface of politics and religion, contemporary and ancient
 • Classic religious, spiritual, philosophical, mythological, magical, and political texts from Chinese, Sanskrit,
    Hebrew, cuneiform, Greek and Latin sources
 • Archaeological artifacts from the ancient world
 
We offer a major in Religious Studies and minors in Religious Studies and Classical Studies. Additionally, the department administers a Liberal Studies Major. Some of our courses focus on the role of religion in human history, experience, thought and action. Others focus on the ancient Near Eastern / Greco-Roman cultures and their lasting effects on the modern world.
